Reunion Weekend Recap
50 years may have passed by, but you wouldn't know it by looking at the classmates who attended the Reunion weekend. Everyone just picked up where they left off! We may look a little different, but that certainly doesn't change the lifelong relationships we have with our Glen Rock family.
We started off the weekend Friday evening at Rivara's Owl Pub & Restaurant. It was fun trying to recognized classmates as they arrived, but it turned out to be easier than we thought. It was just like old times meeting in the bar, seeing Frank and Vic as they worked a Friday night and then moving to tables to catch-up, have a drink and eat. We didn't quite stay as late as we would have in '68, but some of us did stay until almost 11:00!
Saturday many of us met at the Glen Rock Historical Society Museum at the Train Station Close to the Rock. Wow...what an amazing place! The whole history of our town and our schools. Some of our classmates were able to help the Museum identify photos they had covering the 60s. Bill Mitchell and his wife Kathy are active members of the Historial Society and did a tremendous job getting us access and showing us around. If any of you are in the Glen Rock area, visiting the Museum is a must! They also welcome any photos or memorabilia you might want to donate instead of discarding.
About 24 classmates met at the Glen Rock Inn for lunch and another chance to visit with each other. It was quite nostalgic as the Inn still has the same ambiance and the same delicious Hot Steak Sandwich! And of course, Victor Quinn was there to welcome us.
After lunch, our next stop was Glen Rock High School. Now that brought back lots of memories! A big thank you to Carlo and Debbie Cella for giving us a memorable tour! One of thefirst stops on our tour was the cafeteria where we all commented: "It sure looks smaller!" Parts of the school haven't changed, or at least were recognizable, but wow... The addition of the arts and science wing (2 stories) is amazing! The students now have the latest technologically equipped labs for chemistry, physics, biology, robotics, computer sciences and more. The Arts have fully equipped and beautiful labs for 2-dimensional art, 3-dimensional art, pottery, photography, digital arts, video, and much more. Students also have fully equipped workout facilities, a library that is a digital wonder, a music wing (in the same place, but expanded, a greehouse, and I know there is more. The Auditorium is basically the same with new seating and stage equipment. The Gymnasium is also basically the same too. Those of you that remember the Courtyard we used to cross would never recognize it now. It is beautifully landscaped with paved paths, has a gazebo, small outdoor classroom, amazing sculptures and more. Most of it was created with gifts.
After a full day, those classmates who participated in the day's activities headed off to prepare for the main event.
At 6:00 classmates began picking up their nametags (with high school yearbook photos on them), meeting other classmates in the hall and entering the Reunion. There were many classmates that could not make it to the earlier activities, so there were more guessing classmates names. Classmates had individual portraits taken by our reunion photographer, then enjoyed the lots of appetizers and the cash bar as they visited with each other. Everything was low-key and relaxed with just some background 60s music provided by Lou Canonico and his iPad. Our goal was to give everyone the opportunity to rekindle friendships and take advantage of this time to enjoy each other. The Photographer and committee herded everyone to the center of the room of a Class Photo, then the photographer wandered around the room taking candid photos. There was a greeting from our Class President, Lou, a buffet dinner, the cutting of the Reunion Cake and more visiting with each other until the evening ended with hugs and promises to keep in touch.
All in all, the response we heard was very positive. Everyone seemed to enjoy a more casual weekend and reunion event and there is a lot of talk about wanting to gather to celebrate 55 years in 2023!
Please browse through the Website to look at photos. If anyone has any other reunion photos, please post them, or email them to Lou or Jan so we can share them here and in our Memory Book.
If you have not done so already, please register on the Website and if you can, leave a message and upload a current photo. We are going to try to keep the Website up for as long as we can.
You can purchase a Class Photo, Memory Book or Photo CD of the Reunion candid shots. See the Reunion Products Page.
